Blog Post #20 - Cinematography
Cinematography is an important skill for a producer to master, and thus I have to practice it to improve the quality of my project. Cinematography is the art of making motion pictures, by mixing different lighting, camera techniques, and colors to tell a story and invoke emotion in an audience.
I chose at the beginning to use a high-angle shot to be able to hide what was on the paper that Fern was handed and not have to switch angles to make an over-the-shoulder shot. There is also lots of props in this video that will be moved out of this room for the final project, though due to the hassle, I will not be doing for this example video.
This then uses an action match shot, from Fern standing up to him picking up the keys. In the final project, Ed will pick up the keys— but Ferm had to here due to a lack of people to record at the moment.
This shot features a gag of opening a door the wrong way, a joke many may find relatable— and thus funny. This was originally not intended, but it was an accident that happened and was left in after liking the joke. This will add to the comedic aspect of the project. This then switches to a title screen, with overly dramatic music, to further develop a comedic presence.
To conclude, this has been the example scene of my project, although using a different actor for Fern. This venture has helped me to further hone my cinematography and editing skills, along with using gags and sound for humor. I will continue to plan my project and soon will get into production.
