Blog Post #26 - Costuming Ed and Fern
As discussed in my 24th post, costuming is vital to any visual production. Whether that be a short video, a film, or a podcast. It helps the audience to understand different roles and personality traits, or backgrounds of a character.
As I researched in my 3rd and 19th post respectively, detectives have many different costuming traits and symbols that indicate their presence. Iconic clothing aspects of detectives are trench coats, jackets, fedoras, slacks, and dark colors. The iconography of detectives includes things such as magnifying glasses, fingerprints, badges, and file folders.
I can incorporate these aspects of the detective's clothing and iconography in order to make my characters seem real and convincing to the audience. The main problem with incorporating these aspects is my lack of funding to purchase these costumes, as I do not have them already, and will have to buy them for multiple people.

Given this lack of funding, my detectives will either be wearing trench coats and fedoras (the more expensive option), or just suits (which we already have). This is a stereotypical look of detectives and thus will be easily recognizable. Given this uncertainty, I will plan out my filming in a way where my detective will wear their professional outfits later in the project, rather than earlier. This will also work for the idea that the detectives only wear their outfits when going out to do something, not when just lounging around.
I will create another post on the final research and purchasing of the Detectives, and the Killer within the next few days. I am close to starting production within a few days after doing this.
