Blog Post #27 - Filming Location Update: Detective's Office

In my 20th post, I shot an example scene in my. bedroom, where I planned to shoot. Although there were many aspects of the room that I would have to change— removing posters, removing the bed out of the room, and taking everything out of my room in general— to shoot my final project there.

Below are some pictures of the various obstacles to making my room a good space to shoot this scene.

This space is right next to the door, which makes sure it will be seen on camera at the end of my project when Ed and Fern walk out of the room. Moving this out of the room would be an option if it wasn't taller than my door. Removing everything from the shelf and then moving it out is also an option, but would be an unreasonable task.

These posters are above the desk in my beginning scene, which I would have to remove to make sure the space is appropriate for my project. The unframed posters are the biggest problem here, as they would likely get damaged while moving them, costing me more money which I don't have.

Along with those posters, there are also lots of other objects in this room that would not make sense to have in a detective's office, and restrict the placement and angling of the camera towards the subjects, to hide them from the view of the audience.

This space is another problem, as it would be directly in the shot of Fern reading the S.K.B.D News at the beginning of the project. Although this would be the easiest of these problems to solve, it is still just another factor on top of all the other problems.

So given these problems, I had to find a space I could record in, and I could easily make look like a more professional space. As I was thinking about an area, the main room of my house came to mind, as it is separated into different areas which I could easily hide, and change about it.

This is the space in which I will shoot the scene in which Fern and Ed leave the office, as it is a big door, and I can easily clear out objects from this space— such as the water bottles.

This is the area in which Fern and Ed will be conversing at the beginning of my project, and where Fern will be reading the S.K.B.D. News. Normally this area does not have much in it besides the chairs, plant, mirrors, carpet, and table, so it will be easy to work into an appropriate recording space.

Given this new location update, I am closer than ever to starting production on my project, the last major thing I need to do is to purchase costumes for my cast and get together my cast to record. I also need to write on locations to shoot my footage for my security camera footage.
